Game Manual



🎯 Objective

Be the first player to build a timeline of 12 songs in the correct chronological order.

🎵 What You Need

  • A deck of music cards
  • A phone or tablet with YouTube access
  • Space in front of each player to build a timeline

⚙️ Setup

  1. Shuffle the music cards.
  2. Each player receives 1 card.
  3. Place this card face up in front of you. This is the start of your timeline.
  4. Place the remaining deck in the center.
  5. Decide who goes first.

🎮 Gameplay

  1. Draw a card — Take the top card from the deck.
  2. Play the song — Search the song on YouTube and play it so all players can hear it.
  3. Listen — All players listen carefully. You may not look up the release year.
  4. Place the card — Put the card where you think it belongs in your timeline:

    • Before all cards
    • After all cards
    • In between two cards
    • If the card has the same year, it can be placed either before or after the matching card
  5. Reveal the year — Turn the card over and reveal the release year.

    • Correct → Keep the card
    • Incorrect → Discard the card
  6. Next player takes their turn.

🪙 Tokens

Tokens allow teams to challenge the placement of another team’s card.

If a team thinks that the active player has placed a card incorrectly on their timeline, they may use a token to try to win that card.

Starting Tokens

Each team starts the game with 2 tokens.

When to Use a Token

A token may only be used when another team is placing a card on their timeline.

If you think the card has been placed incorrectly, place your token on the exact spot where you believe the card should go in that timeline.

Important:

  • You must place your token on a different position than where the active team placed the card.
  • You cannot choose the same position. A token always represents an alternative placement.

Order of Priority

If more than one team wants to use a token, teams decide in turn order:

  1. The team that is next in turn decides first
  2. Then the following team decides
  3. Continue in turn order until each team has had the opportunity

The next team always has the first right to challenge.

Resolving the Token

After the correct year is revealed:

  • If the token was placed exactly in the correct position, the challenging team wins the card and adds it to their own timeline in that position
  • If the token was placed incorrectly, the challenging team does not win the card

In both cases, the token is used and removed from the game.

Winning a Token

You can win a token during your own turn if:

  • You place the card correctly in your timeline
  • You correctly name the artist
  • You correctly name the song title

If all three are correct, you gain 1 token.

⚙️ Game Setup

  1. Shuffle the music cards.
  2. Each team receives 1 starting card, placed face up.
  3. Each team starts with:

    • 2 Challenge Tokens
    • 1 Escape Token
  4. Place the X2 Token in the center.
  5. Choose the game intensity:

    • Crazy: Master challenges appear often
    • Classic: Master challenges appear sometimes
    • Limited: Master challenges appear rarely

🎮 Gameplay Overview

Master Mode is played like Party Mode, but without drinking penalties.

Before some songs, a Master challenge may appear at random.

If a challenge appears, the active team must:

  • Read the challenge out loud
  • Complete the challenge or follow its effect
  • Apply any card, token, turn, or timeline effect described by the challenge

Challenge TokenChallenge Token

Same as in Classic and Party Mode.

  • Used when another team places a card
  • Place it on the correct position in their timeline
  • Must be a different position than the active team chose
  • If correct → you win the card
  • If incorrect → nothing happens
  • Token is removed after use

Each team starts with 2 Challenge Tokens.

Escape TokenEscape Token

Allows a team to avoid or cancel one Master challenge effect.

  • Can be used once per token
  • Can be played immediately when a challenge is assigned
  • After use, the token is removed from the game

Winning an Escape Token

You can earn an Escape Token in two ways:

  1. On your own turn — Say the exact year before revealing. If correct → gain 1 Escape Token.
  2. On another team’s turn — Use a Challenge Token as normal. If you correctly place the card and correctly guess the exact year, you keep your Challenge Token and gain 1 Escape Token.

X2 TokenX2 Token

There is only 1 X2 Token in the game.

Effect: Doubles the effect of a Master challenge when possible.

  • Can be used at any moment when a challenge is assigned
  • Only usable once
  • If the challenge effect cannot logically be doubled, the X2 Token has no effect on that challenge

How to Win the X2 Token

  • 3 correct years in a row
  • 2 cards with the exact same year correctly placed

If another team achieves this later, they immediately take the X2 Token, even if it has not yet been used.

🎲 Master Challenges

At random moments before a song starts, a Master challenge may appear.

Master challenges do not include drinking. They focus on:

  • Guessing the exact year
  • Guessing the artist or song title
  • Stealing, gaining, losing, or swapping tokens
  • Swapping cards between teams
  • Skipping, gaining, or redirecting turns
  • Trivia questions

Examples

  • Guess the exact year. If correct, take another turn.
  • Take 1 token from any team.
  • Swap one of your cards with another team’s card.
  • Ask another team a trivia question. If they answer incorrectly, take 1 token from them.

⚠️ Special Endgame Rule

  • When a team reaches 11 correct cards, that team cannot use Challenge Tokens anymore
  • That team must win by correctly placing a card on their own turn

This prevents winning by taking a card from another team.

  1. On your own turn — Say the exact year before revealing. If correct → gain 1 Escape Token.
  2. On another team’s turn — Use a Challenge Token as normal. If you correctly place the card and correctly guess the exact year, you keep your Challenge Token and gain 1 Escape Token.

X2 TokenX2 Token

There is only 1 X2 Token in the game.

  • Can be used at any moment when a challenge is assigned

If another team achieves this later, they immediately take the X2 Token, even if it has not yet been used.

🎲 Party Challenges

At random moments before a song starts, a challenge may appear.

The active team must:

  • Read the challenge out loud
  • Complete the challenge

Examples

  • Drink challenge
  • Dance challenge
  • Team coordination challenge

⚠️ Special Endgame Rule

  • When a team reaches 11 correct cards, every turn that team must drink together until they win
  • That team cannot use Challenge Tokens anymore

This prevents winning by taking a card from another team.
